Mentorship Day w/ Benj Haisch | Amy + Steve | Tacoma, WA

I have a pretty long list of photographers I find to be super inspiring & who’s work I love to follow.  I’m lucky enough that one of those photographers is located just thirty minutes north of me & actually offers mentorships to fellow artists.  A day picking the brain of local wedding photographer Benj Haisch?  Yes please, where do I sign up.

It was pretty awesome to shoot alongside Benj & see how his brain works.  The way he is completely intentional in the way he sets up each shot & his technical knowledge of the camera reminded me I still have room to grow.  As part of the day, he brought in a couple we could shoot for a mock engagement session.  Meet Amy & Steve, recently married in the Fall but together for nine years.  I couldn’t have asked for a cooler couple to work with… they were up for anything & didn’t complain about the pouring rain once!

Here are a few of my favorite images from our shoot.

But seriously, the day was a blast. Talking technique & processing with Benj, shooting a couple of the most genuinely nice people I’ve ever met & having my own portraits taken made for a pretty awesome day. Thanks again Benj!

Amy, I’m so eager to learn more and have been watching you grow. Please share… how do you approach another photographer for mentorship? Did you just randomly contact him? Did he offer classes? Did you stalk him (kidding), but seriously how do you go about learning more?
